wfmu record fair next weekend

If perchance (1) you still have a turntable and (2) you’re going to be in NYC next weekend — or were looking for an excuse to make a trip — the WFMU Record + CD Fair is next Friday Nov 4th through Sunday November 6th at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18th St in New York City.

It’s like the Princeton Record Exchange, Jerry’s Records, and the vinyl records section of ebay all packed up and came to town for a weekend. You stand a very good chance of leaving with many, many, many records that you never thought you’d buy and maybe the one you were really really really looking for but could never find.

On a related note, if you’ve never checked out WFMU’s live broadcast stream, you really should! You never know what you’re going to hear — Terry Riley? Deerhoof? Old-timey country music? Taiwanese surf? — and they’ve got a number of old shows catalogued by DJ and playlist, making for an incredibly rich library of obscure music well worth browsing.

PS - OK, hold the presses, just read that DMBQ is playing Saturday at 2pm! They’re the most insane band I’ve ever seen and they’re from freaking Tokyo so seeing them for $5 is well worth coming to NYC all by itself?!?!?!?
